Participants will have the opportunity to earn up to six graduate credit hours or professional development credit. Educators from primary through post-secondary and in all content areas are welcome!
Why Our Professional Development?
Excerpt from “Status of Writing Instruction In Kentucky Public Schools” by Terry Hibpshman and Kim Walters-Parker of the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board (2012):
“One result about the effective teachers does bear consideration: more effective teachers of writing were more likely to have participated in programs of the National Writing Project. NWP activities were highly rated by both the teacher respondents and the institutional respondents, and it seems clear that participation in these activities may be the single most attractive mechanism for improving the quality of writing instruction, both for teacher candidates and for teachers already in the classroom.”
And More PD Opportunities
The Morehead Writing Project is a National Writing Project site. NWP was founded in 1974 to improve the teaching of writing. Today there are nearly 200 National Writing Project sites located on university campuses around the United States. MWP is one of eight sites in the Kentucky Writing Project Network. Designed as a learning community, NWP is the most successful educational network in the history of American education. More than 70,000 teachers are a part of the national network which provides more than 7,000 professional development activities annually, reaching 130,000 educators, and through them, 1.4 million students.
Founded in 1986, MWP has built a large network of teachers who provide professional development for teachers and pre-service teachers in our region.
These programs include workshops offered on MSU’s main and regional campuses. MWP also works with districts and schools to provide individual programs tailored to meet local needs. All MWP programs align with Kentucky Core Content and Program of Studies curricula and Kentucky Professional Development Standards. As a National Writing Project affiliate, MWP qualifies as an exemplary professional development provider by No Child Left Behind regulations.
