2014 Morehead Writing Project Fellows

The Invitational Summer Institute is at the heart of our work as a National Writing Project site. This is where our work to improve the teaching of writing in Eastern Kentucky begins.

The Summer Institute will be held during MSU’s Summer I (June 13-30 in 2016) although we will adjust the starting date if it conflicts with school closing dates for our participants. The Summer Institute is held 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

We will review applications beginning Feb. 13, 2016.

Submit your application using this online submission form.

What is it?

The Summer Institute (SI) is a three-week writing and learning retreat open to teachers of all disciplines and grade levels. Its goal is to produce better teachers of writing by producing better writers among teachers. Participants are introduced to new and inventive teaching strategies, gain confidence and validation for their current best practices, and are treated to a collegial environment for fellowship, shared brainstorming and troubleshooting.

Who should apply?

We seek P-16 administrators and teachers from all content areas who are looking for new ideas to help their students become more effective writers and who are willing to work on their own writing. We want teachers who are open to examining their teaching practices and who are interested in learning how to incorporate writing into any subject area.

Why should you apply?

If you are interested in being part of a professional support network and participating in a transformative learning experience, apply now!

But don’t just take our word for it…

“I found pleasure in writing for the first time in my life.  I learned how to be a creative writer and extend outside my comfort zone.”

“I gained confidence in my own personal writing. I started out not feeling confident at all in my writing because of experiences I have had in the past. I was given great feedback from the people at the MWP. They were very helpful and never critical.”

“I think the most important thing I gained from the MWP was to believe in myself and my students and to believe that we can all become writers!  I am motivated now to continue my own personal writing and to work on incorporating more writing into my classroom after having attended the MWP.”
