Fantastic Four: Achieving Proficiency on Open Responses

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

Be a super hero and learn how to use the “Fantastic Four” to achieve proficiency on Open Responses. The “Fantastic Four” is a rubric based, scaffold approach to guide student focus on the exact purpose of extended response questions. It teaches students to analyze questions and apply the general scoring guide in a specific process. This method is easy to use and has had proven results on end of the year CATS assessments. Through this training we will explore efficient ways to not only help your students demonstrate their knowledge of core content, but also how we can use open responses as a writing to learn instructional tool in the classroom.

This Saturday Series, Take 3, workshop is offered from 9 a.m. to noon for $20 on the following dates:

April 17 at MSU

April 24 at MSU @ Mt. Sterling

Register by faxing, emailing or mailing the following form and your payment:

Twisting Arms and Breaking the Rules of Writing

Monday, March 15th, 2010

The hands-on and interactive activities in this session are designed to be an introduction to persuasive writing. It allows all students to practice persuasive techniques in writing before they even begin to write a paper.

Activities include an introduction to propaganda, the thesis statement, laying the groundwork for a paper, doing research, how to argue a point and finally, writing the beginning and ending parts to a paper. Whether you want your students to write an advertisement or an essay, you can teach them how to convince someone of something with the use of words and in the end, get what they want. Learning to write persuasively is a valuable, life-long skill to instill in students.

This Saturday Series, Take 3, workshop is offered from 9 a.m. to noon for $20 on the following dates:

April 3 at Morehead State University, Combs Building

May 1 at MSU @ Mt. Sterling

Register by faxing, emailing or mailing the following form and your payment:
