National Writing Contest Offers Authentic Writing Opportunity, Awards, and Scholarships

We invite your young writers in grades 7-12 to participate in the nation’s longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens

Students may submit their original writing to the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards in a wide variety of categories including: critical essay, dramatic script, flash fiction journalism, humor, novel writing personal essay, poetry, science fiction, and short story. In addition, seniors have the opportunity to submit a writing portfolio.

Student writers and educators in Eastern Kentucky now have an additional opportunity for awards and recognition as well as a supportive community thanks to the creation of the Eastern Kentucky Writing Region serving Bath, Boyd, Breathitt, Carter, Clark, Elliott, Estill, Fleming, Floyd, Greenup, Harlan, Johnson, Knott, Lawrence, Lee, Lewis, Leslie, Letcher, Magoffin, Martin, Mason, Montgomery, Menifee, Morgan, Nicholas, Owsley, Pike, Perry, Powell, Robertson, Rowan, and Wolfe counties.

The Morehead Writing Project is an affiliate partner of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards and supports the Eastern Kentucky Writing Region. Educators in the Eastern Kentucky Writing Region looking for more information and support should complete this form.
