The Morehead Writing Project’s 2021 Power Your Story summer journalism camp will kick off June 21, but there is still the opportunity for a few more interested content creators to join the fun. According to camp directors, there are also some scholarships still available.
Power Your Story offers the opportunity to pursue a passion project and create a multimedia story about that topic; publish that story online and in print; and connect with other teen content creators in a supportive yet challenging program.
The Morehead Writing Project will offer the online Power Your Story Summer Journalism Camp June 21-July 2. Middle and high school students will be guided through the process of crafting a long-form news story for publication while developing the comprehensive literacy and communication skills essential for college and professional success. Power Your Story can help teens develop new skills and enhance their writing as well as add new experiences and demonstrated expertise to their portfolio for college and scholarship applications.
The two-week program will be led by Dr. Deanna Mascle of Morehead State University and Sarah Webster of Gallatin County Schools who will provide non-evaluative support for the camp M-F through a combination of morning meetings (no more than 90 minutes), daily writing prompts and activities the writers will work on independently, and small group workshops in the afternoon or evening.
Funded by the National Writing Project and the MacArthur Foundation to encourage teens to learn more about journalism as well as grow as writers and content creators. Contact Dr. Mascle if you have a teen content creator interested in joining Power Your Story this summer.
