Incoming Morehead Writing Project Site Director Eric Morris and longtime Summer Institute Co-Director Leslie Workman are seeking early career Eastern Kentucky teachers in search of mentors and fellow travelers to support their teaching journey. The Morehead Writing Project’s 2025 Online Summer Institute (June 9-July 3) is a great way to find your community. Completing a summer institute not only brings you into a network of Eastern Kentucky teachers but also a huge community of National Writing Project teacher leaders.
For 50 years NWP teacher leaders (including many here in Eastern Kentucky) have prepared comprehensive literacy resources that support reading, writing, critical thinking, and other essential life skills for use in classrooms across content areas and grade levels. These resources have been research and teacher tested. More than 250 studies in the NWP research archive point to the positive impact of NWP on leadership development and student achievement in writing. Teachers who participate in a summer institute learn to design and adapt text sets and open educational resources for their unique classroom needs while also discovering the power of project-based learning and writing.
Participating in a summer institute helps teachers develop the mindset and strategies to become literacy leaders in their district. Teachers at any grade level and in any content area are welcome.
