MWP plans busy fall for writers and writing teachers

National Day On Writing

The Morehead Writing Project has something to offer writers of every age this fall. We are excited to be part of a weeklong celebration connected with the National Day On Writing here at Morehead State University. We and our partners (Morehead State University’s Camden-Carroll Library, Center for Leadership and Professional Development, and Tutoring and Learning Center) will offer daily writing prompts and activities both on campus and online so educators and students throughout our region can participate.

These events will culminate with our Teen Writers Day Out writing marathon which will include more than 200 teens from throughout the region.

The following week on Saturday, Nov. 2, we will continue our celebration of writing with the Writing Eastern Kentucky Conference offering sessions for writers as well as teachers of writing. Our theme for this year’s conference is Harnessing Creativity and Creative Energy In the Classroom and Out.

We will wrap up our fall writing activities with a Super Saturday Writing Camp for young writers in grades four through eight on Saturday, Nov. 9.

The Morehead Writing Project is very proud that this celebration of writing and writers will conclude with our own Brandie Trent accepting the National Council of Teachers of Writing High School Teachers of Excellence Award during the Secondary Section Luncheon on Saturday, Nov. 23, during the NCTE Annual Convention in Boston. She will be one of 16 teachers receiving this coveted national award. Trent was named the Kentucky High School English Teacher of the Year by the Kentucky Council of Teachers of English in February.
