The Morehead Writing Project will once again host its virtual journalism camp, Power Your Story, June 21-July 2. The two-week program will be again be led by Dr. Deanna Mascle of Morehead State University and Sarah Webster of Gallatin County Schools who will provide non-evaluative support for the camp M-F through a combination of morning meetings (no more than 90 minutes), daily writing prompts and activities the writers will work on independently, and small group workshops in the afternoon or evening.
During Power Your Story teen writers will be guided through the process of crafting a long-form news story for publication while developing the comprehensive literacy and communication skills essential for college and professional success. Power Your Story can help teens develop new skills and enhance their writing as well as add new experiences and demonstrated expertise to their portfolio for college and scholarship applications.

Virtual Summer Arts Academy
Students craving a different writing experience should check out the #WalkMyWorld creative writing experience offered as part of Morehead State University’s Virtual Summer Arts Academy. #WalkMyWorld will use a series of writing prompts to encourage writers to explore the world that shapes their personal story with the goal of crafting those words into non-traditional narratives that speak their truth into the world. This program will be led by Dr. Deanna Mascle and is inspired by Ian O’Byrne’s #WalkMyWorld Project. “This work is fun and inspiring,” Mascle said. “I love how it brings a group together and connects us to a broader community of writers.”
MSU’s Virtual Summer Arts Academy will also offer music, theater, and art and design programs. The 2021 Summer Arts Academy will be held virtually June 14-15, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. More information and application can be found here.
